16.2. SIMPLIFIED CONTROL CHARTS

A single chart, as used on the simplified control chart, can give the operator process feedback in a format that's understandable and intuitive and that encourages him or her to react before product is out of specification. It is intuitive because it shows the average and the predicted data spread on one bar. This is the way an operator actually thinks of his or her process.

Here is how it works.

Assume that the operator or an inspector is regularly getting variables data on a critical dimension. Without regular variables data that are entered into some kind of computer or network, control charts are not effective.
