Watching a Movie
In analysing a movie to determine the presence of the Steadicam and its role, we have to concentrate our vision on the means of shooting. The movie must be seen more than once – the first time to understand the story, not under research conditions but as an ‘average viewer’, to be able to be taken in by the fiction and get the movie’s more immediate message. Then should come a more analytical viewing, to extrapolate the basic structure of the movie through its deconstruction – to imagine the screenplay while seeing the movie, noting the sequences, the most important scenes, the significant pieces of dialogue and everything which can be understood with a slower, more careful viewing. ...
