Overview of Processing Modes and Categories
All four modes that you can use to run SAS belong to
one of two categories:

foreground processing
-
background processing
The following figure
shows the four different modes and the processing types that they
belong to. As your processing requirements change, you might find
it helpful to change from one processing mode to another.
