Abstract

This chapter sets the strategic context affecting selection of digitised content and its coordination through collaboration. It summarises the varying positions of digitisation within the strategies of the UK and devolved governments; higher education Funding Councils; Jisc; Research Councils; national and public libraries; museums; archives; and independent, philanthropic organisations. It examines the multilevel environment and its impact on strategic decisions, identifying proactive and reactive commitment in different bodies.
