Establish a leadership mission

Beyond understanding your personal motivations to lead, you also need to think about leadership mission: the impact you want to have and the difference you want to make

Understanding what motivates you to lead is an important start. You also need to focus on a parallel purpose question: what do I want to achieve as a leader? Beyond my own personal fulfilment, what is the mission that drives me?

If you had the chance to interview a leader like Mark Zuckerberg, Arianna Huffington or Bill Gates about what motivates them, it’s unlikely you’d hear too much about money, status and reputation.
