Pay Reinforces Class Distinctions

The problem with special pay practices for executives is not so much that people at the top make too much money. If our top executives’ pay is out of line, which makes for interesting press, it is because they are good at playing a game we have all created. If we are tempted to blame them for their salaries, we should ask ourselves when was the last time we turned down a salary increase or a bonus. Plus, if we are going to continue to worship our leaders and expect them to save us, then they are going to continue to make those salaries.
