In Chapter 7, we discuss the importance of having clarity about your one thing and of aligning your one thing with your team’s, your department’s, and ultimately your organization’s top priority. This sounds like common sense, but it is not common practice as evidenced by these eye-opening findings from a Harris Interactive survey commissioned by FranklinCovey. The survey included 11,045 adult workers and found that:

•  A majority of workers (51 percent) did not understand what they were supposed to do to help the organization achieve its goals.

•  Only 19 percent of workers have clearly defined work goals.

•  Only 9 percent believe that their work has a strong link to their organization’s top priorities.1
