Chapter 19: Keywording

Shall I let you in on a little secret? A bad photo with good keywording sells better than a good photo with bad keywording.

Keywording means describing a picture in words so that potential customers can find it with these terms. A picture says more than 1000 words, so they say. But most agencies only allow you to use about 50 words. Tagging photos appropriately with keywords is an art. Learning it should be at least as important to stock photographers as knowing how to use their equipment.

If you think you are saving time by superficially tagging the pictures, you’ll regret it at the end because you will earn less. Time is money and if you invest this time into good keywording, you will get better sales in return. ...
