Chapter 18: Image Editing

I call this part of my work the “meditative part”, because the steps are largely the same when editing a photo session, so I can easily listen to music or an audiobook while doing the post-processing. If you are a real time saver, you can also download magazines and papers as podcasts or MP3s and do many things at once. My image editing workflow includes the follwing steps:

Converting RAW images (e.g. using Photoshop’s CameraRAW or Capture One by Phase One):

  1. Adjust lightness

  2. Increase contrast

  3. Increase saturation

  4. Remove chromatic aberrations, if necessary

  5. Slight noise reduction, if necessary

Retouching:

  1. Crop background (only in studio shots with white background)

  2. Remove sensor spots, if necessary ...
