Chapter 18. Storage vMotion
One of the wonders of vSphere is live migration of virtual machines (VMs) from one ESXi host to another without detectable disruption. The feature that enables this is called vMotion. vMotion was created to help with vacating hosts for maintenance or decommissioning without the need for scheduling downtime. However, there was no facility to move VM files between datastores without disruption or service outage—well, not until ESXi 3.5 introduced Storage vMotion (SvMotion)
