Bob loved operating gas stations. He loved the work, the people, and even the smell of gasoline in the morning. After decades in the field, he traded his store keys for a training manual. When I met him, he had spent the last five years helping to create a new generation of managers who loved the job as much as he did. When you saw him teach, it was clear that he was highly regarded for his experience; but most of all, the learners loved him.
