DEVELOPING INNOVATION SKILLS IN LEADERS
Once the accountabilities and expectations were established, we designed a variety of development mechanisms to help all leaders learn the new skills required to lead innovation. One of our surprises (though it shouldn't have been) was that after a year of communicating expectations around accountabilities during leadership workshops and events, some people still didn't seem to get it. We decided that if innovation embedment was important, we needed to begin a full court press. We needed to ensure that everyone understood their accountabilities, had the requisite skills and knowledge, and had a plan for how they were going to use these new skills and support back on the job.
