THE FLOW AND TPS
The author has reviewed Toyota’s operations from all angles for more than half a century and has come to the conclusion that the hidden secret of Toyota’s success lies in its total system of the flow. Although Toyota takes every opportunity to publicly explain its philosophy, I wonder how many people have come to recognize and appreciate the real strategies of Toyota, which start from the concept of the flow that has been so natural to Toyota, and yet so difficult to explain to outsiders.
First, let’s start with the term flow. The flow means the flow of materials, work, information, and every other operation that take place in the course of everyday work.
The next question is, which direction does it flow?
Upstream? Definitely ...
