4 Limiting redundancies – Alternative strategies

The previous chapter highlighted the negative impact of redundancies on organisations and individuals, and in response to this information, it is meaningful to consider alternative strategies to prevent or limit redundancies. This chapter will explore various strategies to save costs including ‘pull’ strategies in more depth. Reducing the workforce may not always be preventable, but there are undoubtedly actions that should be considered to limit or even avoid redundancies. Fire-and-rehire strategies discussed at the end of this chapter are not condoned.
