Chapter 4. Tools and Technologies

One of my favorite workplace witticisms (those little sayings that are photocopied and posted on cubicle walls) is the saying “If all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.” This is painfully apparent in the IT world, where the cost in lost time and effort to learn a new tool means that the same old tools are often applied to problems to which they are not very well suited.

It is impossible for even the best-read, most up-to-date developer to have a thorough understanding of every new development in the IT field.
