According to the 2012 P&I/Towers Watson Global 300 pension funds ranking report, the assets under management (AUM) of pension funds amounted to US$14.0 trillion in 2012. According to the report, North America was the largest region in terms of AUM, accounting for 40.5% of total worldwide assets. Europe was the second-largest region, followed by the Asia Pacific region. The Defined Benefit Fund accounted for 68.5% of total assets.
