SOLVED UNIVERSITY QUESTIONS
SOLVED PROBLEM 7.21
A laminated spring of semi-elliptical type has a span of 750 mm and is built up of leaves 8 mm thick and 35 mm wide. How many leaves would be required to carry a central load of 5 kN without the bending stress in the material of the spring exceeding 220 N/mm2. Assume modulus of elasticity of 200 N/mm2 (Anna Univ., May 2006, EEE).
Solution:
Given data: Length, l = 750 mm, load, W = 5 kN and bending stress, f = 220 N/mm2.
