OCTOBER, Day 171: You Don't Need Years of Experience

I'm constantly amazed by the courage of younger sales reps today, who are helping to move the mental health in sales conversation forward in a big way. One of those reps was a rep named Anthony who had recently graduated from college and was six months into an outbound sales role at a high-growth SaaS company.

When Anthony and I connected over the phone, his comments filled me with immense joy as he went on to say: “I read in your book about companies needing to provide sales reps with quota relief when they go on vacation. It really resonated with me because it feels impossible to take time off when quota and metrics don't factor in time off. I brought it up with my sales leaders and my company has now implemented quota relief for sales reps going on vacation!”

I was truly blown away when I heard this because:

  1. It took me about seven years to start talking about mental health in sales, not six months.
  2. I never would have had the courage to bring this type of initiative up with my sales leadership team at that point in my career.

So thank you for being an inspiration, Anthony. Thank you for showing others you don't need years of experience and it's possible to use your voice for effective change around mental health within sales organizations.
