Steel Beam Design

INTRODUCTION

Chapters 2, 3, and 4 described how to determine the stresses in a beam due to its loading conditions. Chapter 5 described how to design beams with sawn lumber, this chapter will explore procedures for designing steel beams.

The primary source for information regarding steel, steel shapes, and steel structural design procedures is the Manual of Steel Construction, Allowable Stress Design, published by the American Institute of Steel Construction, AISC.
