The adhesive/adherend interface in a well-designed composite-composite adhesive joint is stronger than either the substrate or the adhesive, and loading to failure results in crack propagation either through the adhesive or between composite lamina close to the bond line. A successful bond relies on both process control during manufacture and nondestructive testing of bonds postmanufacture. This chapter discusses promising new technologies for bond process control as well as nondestructive inspection of bonded assemblies. Recent research developments for both approaches are discussed, advances highlighted, and future opportunities presented. ...
