DEFORMING A CUBE

Introduction

A cube can be deformed in many simple ways to create a large number of forms suitable for packaging. Like almost all examples of structural packaging, a cube consists of three elements:

– faces

– edges

– corners

Imagine that a cube is made of solid wood. A little of the wood may be shaved away, or a lot, symmetrically or asymmetrically, at one face, edge or corner, or two or more, to create a large array of new forms. Each resulting form can be made as a net following the method explained in Chapter 2.
