CHAPTER 11Closing

AFTER MONTHS OF EFFORT, you’ve finally reached the payoff. Closing is the process of bringing an orderly end to your project, the project that so many people labored over so long. This is not always easy. Organizational fatigue has likely set in, as everyone just wants the project to be finished. The customers want their deliverables. Management wants you to stop spending money. Your people want to get on their next task as soon as possible.

Properly closing and documenting the project’s activities is the last thing anyone wants to do. It is all too easy just to do a little window dressing and close the project. Do so, and you are missing a tremendous opportunity. These actions will help you thrive at the end of a project:
