Every open source product has at least one mailing list to allow product users to interact with one another. Some products that are especially popular can have upward of 100 user mailing lists, each devoted to a particular aspect of the product.

Most mailing lists offer statistics about the list: number of members, number of posts, and so on. There is typically a choice about whether to receive each posting as it is sent or to receive a single e-mail containing a concatenation of all the day's posts.
