Casting Shadows Using Perspective
Start with the final two-point perspective building illustration shown here. We have already established the horizon line and the existing vanishing points. Now we need to choose our Light Source Vanishing Point (LSVP); this point can be randomly placed with two exceptions:
• If you’re trying to illustrate an early or late part of the day, which would give long cast shadows. In this case, you’d set the LSVP extremely far to the left or right.
• If it is high noon, you would have no shadows other than directly beneath each object. In this case, you’d only see shadow under the elevated building.
