Challenges Beyond Culture When Living and Working Overseas

When working in a multicultural environment or in a foreign country, we face more than cultural challenges. Other aspects of the new country, such as the country climate, language, or infrastructure, keep international managers busy for quite some time after their arrival overseas. Many of these differences overshadow cultural challenges at the beginning of the assignment. Getting used to a new job, possibly in a new company, in a new country is exhausting. An expatriate’s family members deal with issues like new schools, finding housekeeping personnel, building relationships in the neighborhood, and getting used to different currencies, foods, and such.
