Tunable Kernel Parameters
The kernel chapter of this book explains how the main kernel algorithms work. The kernel tunable values listed in this section include the tunables that are worth worrying about. There are a huge number of global values defined in the kernel; if you hear of a tweak that is not listed in this book, think twice before using it. The algorithms, default values, and existence of many of these variables vary from one release to the next. Do not assume that an undocumented tweak that works well for one kernel will apply to other releases, other kernel architectures of the same release, or even a different patch level.
