Many products help automate the processes of performance management, but there is a difference between the promise of the glossy brochure and the reality of a product. It is also hard to compare tools which have overlapping functionality across a wide spectrum of uses. To research this subject and write an initial report, Steven Gan from the Sun Singapore field office was seconded to work with me for five weeks during 1994. I initiated the study, provided guidance, and edited the resulting white paper. This section is based upon an updated summary of the paper.
