Clustering for High Availability

There is no value in a stalled mail application on perfectly good hardware—clusters add value by keeping business applications running. End-users (e-commerce, business-to-business, etc.) do not generally know about the hardware or software being used to run their applications; what concerns them is the availability of the service(s) (e-mail access, account status, bill payments, order placing, etc.). To illustrate this point, ask yourself: When was the last time you placed an order for something via a telephone or online and wondered what kind hardware or software was being used? All that should matter to an organization is that its infrastructure is capable and ready to deliver a service to the end-user.
