Whether HA-Oracle has an advantage over an OPS configuration depends on several factors:
How fast does the system need to recover in the event of failure? For example, is up to 20 minutes acceptable for recovery time in a failover situation? — or does the business impact of downtime warrant the instantaneous availability of a standby system?
Is long-term scalability a real issue? Is the database size or user population growing at a linear rate every 6 to 12 months? If the application is suitable for partitioning with OPS, it can enable significant incremental scalability and/or speed up.
