Highly Available, Scalable Data Services
Scalability is a term that describes how a machine or application performs when new hardware or software is introduced. As discussed in Chapter 5, '“Highly Available Databases,” scalability with SC2.2 software is only achieved with application software that is cluster-aware, for example, Oracle OPS, Informix XPS, or IBM DB2/EEE (parallel database applications). Applications not written specifically to take advantage of clustering would not benefit by adding nodes. However, adding nodes to a cluster does offer higher application availability, see Chapter 1, “High Availability Fundamentals”). The SC3.0 framework offers expansive application configurations that can maximize HA.
