CHAPTER 14Supply Chain: Ensuring There Is End‐to‐End Flow
In the previous chapters, we have discussed how to establish world class planning and execution practices in various Supply Nodes. This enables them to quickly improve to perform individually and sustain that performance at a high level. The focus now is to ensure that these Supply Nodes are not left as independent activities but are built into an integrated Supply Chain that ensures flow is established to deliver or exceed customer requirements. A Supply Chain, therefore, requires all the elements shown in Figure 14.1, Business Excellence Planning, to be fully integrated and requires measurement to identify how yield changes through the Supply Chain can highlight further improvement opportunities.
Strategically Driven
The design of your Supply Chain must be aligned with your overall strategy and must not be built in isolation to ensure that it reflects market and product needs today and in the future. Figure 14.2, Bringing the Future into Today, shows that the 5‐ or 10‐plus‐year Strategic Plan must be supported by Driving and Supporting Roadmaps to ensure the right level of granularity is available for planning by all supporting functional organizations.
