Abstract

More than two decades after the discovery of high-temperature superconductivity, superconducting wires, based on the YBaCuO family of materials, are finally being manufactured with the performance necessary for use in initial commercial applications. The development of these second-generation (2G) high-temperature superconductor wires required overcoming formidable scientific, engineering, and manufacturing challenges.
