Abstract

The design and status of high-temperature superconductor (HTS) AC cables are reviewed. HTS AC cables have many potential benefits, including high-power capacity, ease of installation, and high efficiency. The principles of inductive balancing and the main cable configurations are introduced, along with the present understanding of how to minimize AC loss.
