The Future Cost ofSuperfund: FY 2000through FY 2009
Congress requested that we estimate the cost to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of implementing the Superfund program for the 10 fiscal years beginning in FY 2000. Although FY 2000 has ended since we began this effort, we include our estimates for that year. This chapter discusses our estimates, as well as the assumptions on which they are based. Each part of the Superfund program is addressed separately. The bulk of this chapter focuses on the cost of the remedial program, as that is where we put the lion's share of our efforts. We then provide our estimates for the entire program from FY 2000 through FY 2009, on both an annual and an aggregate basis.
