Chapter FourMr. E

“Okay, Trent, looks like you're all set, and you sure lucked out. You got Mr. E!” said the excited lady from the office who was getting his registration completed before he went to class.

Trent looked at her feeling a little confused and asked what the E stood for.

She smiled a big toothy grin and wound up her face ready to share her favorite story in the world to tell new students.

“Well,” she said with a big breath, “we call him Mr. E or Mystery, which is what it sounds like when you say Mr. E. That's how we like to think of him because he is a very different sort of teacher. He's an enigma! Do you know what that is? Look it up; you'll be glad you did! He's the most beloved teacher by all the students and his last name is hard to say so we all started calling him Mr. E. But his real name is Mr. Enigmatic. It's very fitting because we just never know what he's going to do! As you can imagine, it's even harder to spell, so we stick with Mr. E.”

“He sure is unique, you'll see!” she said, entirely too excited for a story that wasn't that amazing, thought Trent.

Trent's head was swirling. Unique? Different? Fun? And people loved him for that? He didn't believe it. Not possible, he thought. He can't be that different. Teachers are all the same. Trent took the hall map from the table and looked back at the office lady still grinning and now spinning around in ...
