On the whiteboard in big letters, Mr. E wrote the focus for the first day of Puzzle Week: “Where we are similar, we come together to relate.”

“This is the first part of discovering yourselves and each other. Today we are focusing on similarities or things we have in common that brings us together. This also helps us have subjects where we share interests to talk about. Then we can recognize things in our lives that help us to connect.”

He explained to the class that they had an entire day filled with activities that would help them find out what they have in common. The first activity was the sticky note Speed Challenge!

Each student got a stack of sticky note paper. There were 15 different white boards set up around the room, each with a question in different categories. They were to go to each station, answer the question on a sticky note, and put their name on it. Next, they would look at the other answers, and stick their own answer to the whiteboard. If they had the same answer as someone else, they would stick it to the bottom of the other sticky note to make one long sticky note trail. One station asked, “What is your favorite food?” If you answered pizza and someone else answered pizza, then you would stick your note to the bottom of their note showing you had that in common to create a group in that category with a shared ...
