9.1 INTRODUCTION

We have already studied the development of the concept of supply chain management/materials management/logistics. An important link in the supply chain is the inbound materials stores in the manufacturing plant/factory.

From a corner, where things were kept for use, Stores have now developed into an area designed, constructed, organized and operated as per a scientific plan. The aim, earlier, was simply to service the production.

  1. To ensure a balanced flow of materials needed to keep the production running
