Manhattan effect A soldering defect in which a chip component has been pulled into a vertical or near vertical position with only one termination soldered to the PCB. It is typically caused by force imbalances during the reflow soldering process. Also referred to as drawbridging, tombstoning, and the stonehenge effect.

manufacturing defects analysis Test procedure in which circuit nodes of an assembly are accessed by pin-type probes to test individual components within the circuit. Also known as in-circuit testing and pre-screening.

mask The photographic negative that serves as the master for making thick and thin film screens.

mass soldering Process which solders many components to a printed circuit board simultaneously.
