2.1 Overview
Implicit in the process of using surveys for research is the recognition that the results must be valid, especially in light of the fact that opinions gathered by surveys are subjective; otherwise, the survey will not only fail to accomplish its intent but it may even lead to wrong and harmful consequences. This observation calls for a quality control mechanism and evaluation framework, the aim of which is to enable survey researchers (as well as other instrument developers) to examine the soundness or psychometric properties of survey responses in an attempt to safeguard against drawing incorrect interpretations and misuse of results.
