Chapter Eleven. Challenge #2: Fighting a Lose-Lose Situation
Overview
Testers are often placed in a no-win situation. If they report that the software has defects and is not ready for production, they are seen as roadblocks to progress. On the other hand, if they certify that the software is ready for production and problems appear (as they often do), the testers are blamed for not being thorough enough in their testing.
This chapter addresses this lose-lose situation and proposes solutions that help testers communicate their role to the rest of the organization, identify what can reasonably be accomplished, and manage what customers can expect from production software.
