If you have already installed SUSE Linux 10.1 OSS and want to start configuring it, begin with the “Post-Install Configuration” section.
32-Bit or 64-Bit?
If your computer uses an Athlon 64, Opteron, or Pentium D processor (any CPU that has AMD64 or EM64T capabilities), you have the option of installing the 64-bit version of SUSE Linux. The SUSE engineers call this the x86_64 edition, but this guide generally refers to it as the AMD64/EM64T edition. In case you’re wondering, AMD64 is what AMD calls the x86_64 processor instruction set, and EM64T is what Intel calls it. The two are essentially the same and totally compatible.
