Sustainability and Service

To fulfill the vision of cities—that they provide high quality of life for their residents and promote their prosperity, that they support flourishing economies and healthy and rich social and natural environments—cities should focus on developing and integrating the two key concepts of services and sustainability. In this context, services refers to interactions between people, infrastructure, and systems that ultimately confer on the city intangible values, and sustainability relates to the integration of social, environmental, and economic values to maintain the social and natural environments but from a broad and future-oriented perspective (Dresner 2008).
