Abstract

This chapter describes and argues about the way that sustainable buildings (new and retrofitted) can contribute to increase the efficiency of the sustainable built environment with the intent of cutting carbon emissions. It also presents an overview on how do sustainability regulations and laws contribute to carbon emission reduction with emphasis on those developed in Europe, Australia and Dubai—United Arab Emirates.
