Abstract

The chapter deals with the building revolution in the Middle East: how the transformation from tents to skyscraper has taken place in 50 years. The old mud houses and their comfort are explained with examples, and the chapter contains a description of how the sudden wealth from oil money has changed the region into a building hub of the world. Several examples from traditional architecture of the past are included, of different communities living in towns and in the marshes with building styles which use several passive measures of cooling.
