13.1 Introduction

Sustainable development has been defined as a set of principles that guide us to effective utilization of natural resources without undermining their integrity and stability for future generations. Sustainable development has been major agenda in global platform like UNO, World Bank, and climate change conferences since 1987 Brundtland report. Sustainable agriculture refers to farming methods that are pleasant to the environment and allow for the crops or livestock husbandry without causing harm to human or natural systems. It entails avoiding negative consequences for land, water, wildlife, nearby or downstream infrastructure, as well as for human population. Sustainable agriculture is a multigenerational philosophy that passes on a conserved or enhanced natural resource, biotic, and economic base rather than a depleted or polluted one.
