Although the process of writing this book started as a translation of a Dutch book called Duurzaam Bankieren (Sustainable Banking, Jeucken, 1998b), the process of rewriting turned out to be so inspiring that in fact more of a new book has evolved. Duurzaam Bankieren appeared in 1998 in celebration of the Rabobank organization's centennial. The book focused strongly on experiences and issues contained within the Rabobank. However, some prescience in 1997 had already resulted in the Dutch version being split up into a general section (the basic text) and 20 articles contributed by colleagues of the Rabobank organization, which specifically sketched the developments ...
