5. Application and Data Migration
One issue that comes up regularly when dealing with operating system upgrades is moving your data from your old system installation to your new system installation.
Which Approach to Use?
There are two basic approaches to application and data migration.
• The first is to reinstall your applications and then migrate your application settings and data. We discussed this in some detail in Chapter 2, “Applications.”
• The second, which we have found to be much more straightforward and easy to execute, is to use an application migration package to move your applications, their settings, and your data into your new system installation.
