Class-E with Shunt Capacitance
Introduction
The switchmode Class-E power amplifiers with shunt capacitance have found widespread application due to their design simplicity and high-efficiency operation. Their load-network configuration consists of a shunt capacitor, a series inductor, and a series filter tuned to the fundamental frequency to provide a high level of harmonic suppression. In the Class-E power amplifier, the transistor operates as an on-to-off switch, and the shapes of the current and voltage waveforms provide a condition in which the high current and the high voltage do not occur simultaneously.
