Update Deployments

Update deployments are the primary, active object in software updates. All other objects are just groupings of other objects or settings and are generally passive. Update deployments on the other hand are active objects; they actually assign the updates to clients and cause updates to be installed on managed systems. Without any update deployments, software updates is purely a reporting feature set in ConfigMgr.

There are two types of update deployments:

Individual: These assign a specific update to a collection using a defined set of parameters.

Group: Group update deployments assign the updates referenced by an update group to a specific collection, also using a defined set of parameters.
