Principles of Operation

We are now getting ready to dive deeper into understanding the principles in the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and apply some of the concepts we have acquired so far. In this chapter we begin with understanding what is needed for a user to establish one’s relationship with the IMS network, to obtain multimedia services. We then probe how the IMS network establishes and controls the user’s multimedia session. We examine how these multimedia services are invoked and charged for. And finally, we touch upon aspects of the media processing and security.
